How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can start spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test as there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or injectors aren't firing at all. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole, and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get 0ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 new audi key is unplugged, and it runs fine with the G28 connected. 3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. 5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of issues in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission in your Audi since it sends information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine is turning. If this sensor fails, it can disrupt the performance of the transmission and the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then processes the signal to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost as well as transmitting it to replacement audi car key the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer.
